Powder Season is Under Way for 2010
This past weekend we started making the 2010 batch of our gourmet garlic powder and I have to say it’s going to be ever bit as good as last year’s offering. Stay tuned! Or better yet, reserve your jar of goodness today!
National Garlic Day
Today is National Garlic Day. Yup, garlic has its own holiday. I learned about this glorious day from the Garlic Seed Foundation Garlic Press Magazine.
They shared that National Garlic Day promotes the many uses of Garlic. There certainly are many uses. It’s a vegetable. It’s an herb. It is used in recipes around the world. Garlic has been used medicinally for thousands of years. Garlic is also believed to ward off evil spirits. The only negative thing you can say about garlic is that it can negatively affect an otherwise romantic evening.
Lindon Garlic Farm is celebrating National Garlic Day by entering your name in for a give away. The give away includes a free t-shirt and hat to anyone who leaves a comment on our website from today, April 19th to April 23rd. To enter, leave a comment about our website, a comment about any garlic powder that you have tasted, if you attended NOFA and stopped by to see us, or leave a question to be answered by The Garlic Guy. Make sure you leave your e-mail address so that we can contact you if you are the winner.
Eat some garlic in your dinner tonight and enjoy National Garlic Day, it only happens once a year!
The Garlic is Growing
This past weekend, the weather was PERFECT! The temperature was in the high sixties and warm enough for the garlic to pop up. We hope to post a weekly report on the growing garlic. Anyone want to take a guess at the variety? Leave a comment for your guess!
You can now leave your e-mail address to get updates when a new blog post is added. Submit yours today so as not to be left out.

Get Your Crush On
Today I received my Rachael Ray magazine in the mail and I saw this…Thought I would share with all you garlic lovers. It won’t be too long before we are harvesting and no doubt you will want to pick up some of our garlic bulbs.
GET YOUR CRUSH ON
…with garlic that is. According to the USDA Agricultural Research Service, serving crushed baked garlic is the best way to get its benefits. Garlic has long been praised as a source of antioxidants and as an aid in lowering blood pressure. Try popping it in the oven with a roasting pan of veggies.

March 6th NOFA Winter Conference
We had our last vending opportunity for our 2009 garlic product this past weekend at NOFA’s 8th Annual Winter Conference (Northeast Organic Farmer’s Association) in Concord, New Hampshire. My dad and I had attended the conference last year as participants and had a great time. This year we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to be both a vendor to sell our garlic powder and a participant. What was also nice is that Jon was able to attend. Jon and I set up the booth the night before while Nana babysat our daughter. We arrived at the venue for 8AM and the early birds were already shopping before the seminars were to start.
We sold our garlic powder, garlic granules, t-shirts, and a book on how to make garlic powder. We gave out garlic powder samples to all that stopped by our booth and if people were lucky they got to speak to the garlic guy. We also created a handout on the varieties of garlic that we are growing to harvest this summer (see attachment).
I was able to attend a seminar given by Sherri and Andrew Walters of Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire on their online market, called Harvest to Market. I’ll give a plug for their ingenious idea and website on helping farmers, farmers’ markets and anyone wanting to enhance selling their produce from their front lawn. Check out their website www.HarvestToMarket.com.
It was a fun and successful day. We talked with a lot of folks about…. Yup, you guessed it, garlic. For all of those who attended and purchased our powder, let us know what you think in our comment section. For those who might have missed the conference, we have a few jars left for purchase. Send us an e-mail, tell us what you want, and we’ll ship out some great tasting gourmet garlic powder. If you miss it now, you’ll have to wait until September for the next batch!
Until July when we start to harvest…….Happy Garlic!
